Pentax Optio W90 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Black) Review
This camera offers a lot of features for the price. I bought it to go with an earlier model of the same camera, Optio W20, that offered a lot less of the “surprise and delight” kind of wizbang stuff this new model now offers. I use it on a boat and wanted it for it’s waterproof qualities and general toughness along with its multiple features.
The still photos are excellent resolution. The multiple face capture features and the joining of two and three photos together for super wide photos is pretty neat.
It even takes pretty good movies….although the auto focus doesn’t seem to work on the zoom in the movie mode. Maybe it is something I’m doing wrong. But that is the only beef I have with it.
I’m happy with it. Great technological stuff in a small tough package.

Broke on Day 2 – P. J. Titus – Fredonia NY
We bought this camera for a trip to the Bahamas that we led for 17 college students and were hoping to take photos of the students while they were snorkeling. Unfortunately, the camera stopped working on Day 2 even though it has suffered no impacts and was used as directed by the manufacturer. We are in the process of attempting to have the warrenty honored but, unfortunately, we will have few photos of the trip! For this reason, I would not recommend this camera.
Picture quality is Awful. – onederin – USA
I bought this camera the day it came out because I was about to head off to a beach vacation. I was hoping Pentax learned from the awful reviews the W80 received that they needed to upgrade the picture quality of this camera. Apparently they did not.
It’s beyond my understanding how anyone who has a high end dslr can give this camera a good review, let alone a 5 star review. It does nothing well, picture quality is simply awful and the HD video quality is worse then the mediocre video I shoot with my iphone. Underwater quality is sub par as well.
As for the people who are buying it for it’s supposed toughness what good are pictures if the quality is so bad you don’t want to even look at them. However if you insist on getting this type of camera you should look elsewhere. There are better options such as the Panasonic TS2 and the Canon S90 with the underwater housing.
