Sharp AQUOS LC60E77UN 60-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Gold Bezel Review

I agonized over which LCD tv to get for about 2 months before buying the Sharp 60″. I hit the club stores, big yellow box stores and every online store I could find. I also checked out various online review sites such as consumer reports.I liked the LG, Samsung, Vizio and Sharp televisions. Mostly the 55″ range LCD, LED and plasma were in my sights. I elimated the plasma after reading reports of there still being burn out problems, however slight, and they were not as bright as the LCD/LED sets. After seeing the larger Sharp next to the 55″ LED televisions I noticed that it seem to hold it’s own for less money. The Sharp was one of the brightest, as bright as any LED we looked at side by side. The only drawback to the LCDs/LEDs is the motion blur when the camera pans. Sorry, but all LCD/LED sets, even the 120hz amd 240hz have the issue in various degrees. Plasmas much less. I’m sure in the next year or so it they will improve the blurring. But I factored this in before purchasing. I have 5 french doors lining the room the tv is in and can testify that even in a sun lit room the Sharp is bright and sharp. As far as the contrast ratio, it does not have the 2,000,000 as the LEDs and Plasmas, but I honestly can’t tell. The blacks look black enough to me and the side viewing angle is great. I grew up with fuzzy b&w televisions and was happy, then the color tubes came (nice). Now all of the sudden we are connesuirs of contrast ratios!

The sound was dissappointing at first. Then we got HD channels and blu ray, suddenly the sound livened up and sparkled. Our room is 20 X 20 and we have the sound about 1/3 the way up most of the time. There is not much bass response as I knew before purchasing. The flat panels are known for lacking bass. Maybe an audio system later, happy for now though.

Personally I like the gold bezel, which really is like a light bronze imbedded into the black frame at the bottom that gives the illusion of a reflection of wood, pretty ingenious. To me the exterior looks better than most, which was important to my wife. The remote is ok, not great. I also got the sharp blu ray player that is nice, but slow to load. I think a lot of blu rays may be slow, not sure. Over all this TV is huge, if you have to sit as close as 8ft, go smaller. We sit at the 10′ to 14′ range and it’s sharp, super bright and very colorful. Also, we sit about 5′ to the left and right of center and there is no noticable degradation. I had no need to adjust the colors or pay someone to tune it. It came great tuned right out of the box, just like it should. I turn the brightness down at night because it can hurt your eyes, which is great! You can always dim a bright tv, but not visa versa. There is a setting for auto adjustments that take care of all that. Fairly easy to navigate the menu settings. You do get some motion blur during panning as with all LCD/LEDs. Some people don’t notice, some do and don’t care and some are really bothered by it. I have no regrets, if it holds up, my family and I will be thrilled.

Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L32S1 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

For a LCD its very good TV.

It’s cooler (tempature wise) than my Plasma TV, which is good since it’s in my daughter’s room.
The options on this TV are great, The best option I like is the SD slot (which only Panasonic has on their newer TVs and Blue-ray/DVD players). As for Video connections: it has enough for a second/Kids room TV.

If you have or get a Blue-ray/DVD player, suggest getting Panasonic, too.
reason: Blue-ray player remote will work with all of the newer Panasonic TV’s. So you can put TV remote in a drawer.

Setup was very easy, If you mount to the wall and you use HDMI, even the Cable hookups,
I would recommend getting a couple of 90 degree adapters.

They will cost you a few bucks but they will save your high dollar HDMI cables, and you will be able to tilt your TV more.
As for where to get them Radio Shack (of course), Wal-mart had the HDMI adapter, as for the Cable (TV, Satalite connector).
I suggest looking and pricing at different stores. I got mine from Lowe’s, where they were the cheapest by $ 1.50 over
the Shack (they were cheaper than Wal-mart, too)

Cheap ! Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black

Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black Review

I’ve been researching and saving for this TV for a long time. This TV by far was the best value for my money. I’ve looked at LG, Samsung, Sony, and a few others. I must say that so far I have found nothing to say that is bad about the Toshiba. If anything that I’ve learned so far is that all of the big name brand flat screens are the same. It really boils down to how much money you are willing to spend for the TV. I haven’t been able to really play with the color settings yet and haven’t been able to fully use the 1080p settings yet. DirecTV has screwed up my service since moving and they haven’t solved the problem since I’m paying for HD service and I’m not getting it. I’ve got a feeling that I’m going to dump DirecTV when my contract is up with them and get a package deal from Verizon since I’ve got FiOS internet at my house. The only time that I’ve use the 1080p setting is on my Xbox 360 and so far it has a better picture on my TV then my Brother-in-laws HDTV. Overall, it’s a great TV that I haven’t regretting purchasing.

Cheap ! Vizio VO370M 37″ LCD TV 1080p HDTV

Vizio VO370M 37″ LCD TV 1080p HDTV Review

Otherwise either go bigger (such as a 1080p projector) or just get a higher contrast 720p display. That said…

Still wowed at how good the new LCDs are. A year or two with an Olevia 37″ I thought was great compared at home with this new Vizio 37″ 1080P downstairs: Damn. All I had to do was put everything in the middle setting, sharpness on 5 (out of 7), turn off all the processing and features, and put the backlight at about 10-20 to get the whites bright enough, or higher for brighter rooms. And the in-content blacks are still inky. It renders the entire contrast and color range faithfully except for a little laziness in the middle of the dynamic range curve that can seem “smoky” on some older video mastering jobs (you truly need CRT, Plasma, or exotics to get it perfect). And it doesn’t have to be excruciatingly bright like the Olevias. That 237t-t12 even at it’s lowest of three crude backlight settings still is kind of blinding in bright scenes, and I have the Brightness down to the point at which the blacks do not get blacker but I can still barely see the foot of the contrast curve.

That continuously adjustable backlight on the new screens is essential. Combined with better real native (not the dynamic software) contrast, and I am floored. And it was 0 cheaper than the Olevia originally! The only thing I’m troubled with is the promotion of this dynamic contrast mode so much in an effort to compete with Plasmas. I think the contrast really is getting good enough on these 37″ LCDs that it doesn’t need to hide it. Again, there’s still obviously room for improvement as Dark City and the Fifth Element still aren’t quite filmy yet in their gorgeous contrast rendition on any LCD I’ve seen yet, but it’s getting there. At a higher cost, the newest multi-LED-based screens allow even more control over the backlight, but the only time I see any non-uniformity is on a completely blank, black screen with a very slight flashlight effect in the upper right. Much less than the 237t-t12. Now I must start worrying about upgrading the computer to have the horsepower to get one of these for my upstairs system! X-Plane or Blackshark in 1080P just isn’t going to happen on a P4.
